I made this iPod Cozy as part of a Knit Along on the Craftsers site.

I'd been needing one for awhile. So I knitted this one up today.

It has a strap that comes over the top from the back. I looked through my stash of bead and found this great face bead. I just love it!

Working and Knitting At Home Today

Just got back from town. My office is closed but I need groceries anyway. We were out of eggs, milk, and bread plus other things. It has started raining again so I hurried home to get to this side of the low water crossing. The creeks in Marble Falls are flowing hard but obviously aren't up as far as they were because you can see all the debris about 500 yards up the banks.

I'm grateful we have a well and actually have water. Marble Falls is still without. However, I did hear on the radio that we should boil are water since we got more then 6 inches of rain (we got over 18 inches and more is pouring down right now!)

Thanks for all the e-mails and comments on the blog. It is nice knowing so many people I have never meet before are caring about my well-being. But then again the knitting community is so great!

I did make some progress on my sock yesterday after I spent a few hours working and then taking a nap. I didn't get much sleep during the thunder storms that brought all our rain the other night.

Will post a picture later of the sock and about how it is going on out here.

Marble Falls Flooding

We've had over 18 inches of rain in the past 6 hours. The lighting and thunder last night were very scary. It was like trying sleeping in a disco. The flashing of the lightening was non-stop. Several bolts struck close to the house but luckily the house didn't get hit.

One house in Marble Falls wasn't so lucky though. It was hit by lightening and was consumed in fire.

We live out in the country between Marble Falls and Kingsland near Granite Shoals and Highland Haven. They say on the TV that several people had to be rescued from roof tops in Granite Shoals and Kingsland.

We can't get off our property. It is flooded on the road off the property. And all three water crossings that we have to go over in three different ways to get to town have 4 to 6 feets of water.

I have several friends who live on the river/lake in Kingsland. I really hope they are okay.

My work, BeautyRiche.com, is near a major creek in Marble Falls and is possibly could be flooded. My co-worker who lives near there couldn't even go over there to check it out. There are either road barriers or utility polls in the road. It is at avenue N and 2nd street. They showed major flooding near avenue N and 1431 which is up the creek from there.

The pictures are of the alpaca all wet and looking pitiful. I hate that they were out there with all that lightening. But luckily they are okay. Don't know how the cows faired. Several years ago one was hit by lightening and died.

My garden is flooded and the dog's water bowl is completely full and over flowing.

We are expecting more and more rain today and tonight. I'm at home for the duration and I'll be knitting a sock I started the other day. Nothing like knitting at home on a dreary rainy day.

Alpaca Shearing

It is that time of year again where it is getting hot, hot, hot here in Texas. So Carmel and Coco got sheared a couple of weeks ago.

Ankle Socks

I've started knitting socks. This is one of the third pair I've knitted in the last month.

I have another pair using the same yarn but they are crew style socks. I had some left over from each ball so I'd thought I'd try some toe up socks to insure I had enough yarn.

I specifically bought the latest issue of Interweave Knit for the Ann Budd article on toe-up socks. I don't buy many knitting magazines much because I don't seem to end up knitting anything in them. But the toe-sock article with step-by-step directions and a chart for knitting different size socks with different gauges is worth the $7!

The directions and picture for the toe-up cast on, a Turkish or eastern cast-on, was very confusing in the article. I just couldn't figure it out. Luckily, after a little bit of surfing, I found a great tutorial on the Knitty site called Magic cast-on for toe-up socks. I used DPNs though.

Today I drove over to Burnet which is about 20 miles from where I live. I saw a yarn store listed in the latest phone directory that came out last month. It is called Artisan's and is wonderful!

Carrie owns the store and is into cleaning and carding fiber. I talked to her about doing something with the alpaca fiber we have from this year's shearing. She'd like to buy some so we might be able to work out a deal where she'll clean and card some and we'll give her some in exchange. She also knows someone who spins so we may be able to get it turned into yarn too!

Peggy works at the store and helps people with their knitting. She has somewhat informal classes on Saturdays. I may start attending one next Saturday. It will be the Road Scarf pattern from the Lion Brand's website. I'm sure I could teach myself how to do the stitches required but I like the idea of knitting with others and learning from more experienced people as well.

Peggy also told me about two groups that meet at the store. One group meets at 11 am on Fridays and the other group meets at 1 pm on Wednesdays. I'm so excited that I'll have an opportunity to get together with other knitters like I did with my groups in Austin when I worked there.

Speaking of which (or is writing as such?!?!?!), I'm going into Austin tomorrow with Amy so she can take a karate class. And I plan to go to Cafe Caffeine at 10 am for the Austin Knitting and Crochet Meet Up.
