Processing Fiber

Yesterday, Fay and I started going through the alpaca fiber that was sheared last weekend. There are a ton of grass burs in it, so it is slow going.

We watched the videos on wool prepartion on the Joy of Handspinning website. It is very informative.

We are going to purchase some carding paddles and drop spindles. We are going to try our had an making yarn so that we can knit/crochet/weave it.

That sounds like so much fun...I have a drop spindle but I am terrified to try it. I have visions of becoming completely tangled, with my poor children forced to make their own PBJ's until their father gets home.

OK, a bit of an exaggeration, but it is scary to me. I can't wait to see how it goes for you.

Yeah, I'm a little worried about using a drop spindle but I'm willing to try. Just found a spinning store about 45 minutes from home so I'm thinking of taking lessons.
